INTERSECTION

Opening last weekend along with Zeitgeist was the inaugural exhibit INTERSECTION at the new Sousanis Gallery in the Detroit Orchestra Hall / Max M. Fischer Center Complex. This space deemed to be a crossroads space with conference centers and gallery are a collaboration effort between Ann Arbor's University of Michigan and Detroit.

Long talked about and desired, a greater sense of connectedness and dialogue between these dual cities seems to be coming to reality.

With the lack of mass transportation besides the Amtrack link, Detroit and Ann Arbor have long experienced a particular segregation from one another on various levels. MOCAD curator Gregory Tom says that

"It has been good to have that separation between the cities as Ann Arbor Artists do not need to know what Detroit Artists are up to." Gregory himself a recent Cranbrook graduate hailing from New York City has been soaking up the area and now mans the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit not far down Woodward from Sousanis Gallery.

INTERSECTION an introspection into the city of Detroit and an attempt to create dialogue about it, will be going on until the end of October.
